Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Poughkeepsie with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in New York may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

Hours are published for 4 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 am–6 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Tuesday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Four Maples Fish Market at (845) 462-3898; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is fourmaplesfish.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 40 reviews, which is a strong result for a seafood market in Poughkeepsie and suggests consistent service.

Poughkeepsie is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Poughkeepsie is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

We special ordered live lobsters from this place for a birthday party - not only did β€œMike” make a wise crack about the length of my name when I placed the order, but the morning of the party he called to tell me that the lobsters were dead. When I followed up with him to try to solve the problem he told me he β€œhates dealing with live lobsters.” Why sell them to people? Don’t go here.

Sadly, I paid for four lobsters and clams which nobody could eat! The seafood was old, the low quality was unbelievable. It had to go into garbage. The dinner was ruined, money wasted. Obviously, the owner does not care about his business reputation. I will not recommend Four Maples Fish market. I had to check 3 Stars, because the website does not allow the honest review.

Great owner. Very personable and friendly. He provided me with some mussels and a fish filet at no cost in addition to the items I purchased because he didn't have some of the items I was looking for. The fish was fresh and I made an excellent seafood stew with his fresh ingredients. I will definitely reccomend and will return in the future! Thank you !

Best fresh fish I've had in Dutchess county! This fish market is Far superior to any other fishmarket I have been to in this county. I am a picky eater and I eat only wild caught fish. This place has what I need every time and of the highest quality around!!!!
